On the 10/11/2013 I wrote a blog called the negative energy of Remembrance Sunday. This blog was written about ten months before the 100th anniversary of the start of the first world war. Now on the 11/11/2018 we will be asked to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the first world war.
Todays blog to be blunt is being written in much more worrying times than the blog written on the 10/11/13. In fact the world of today is in many ways very similar to the period building up to August 1914 when the first world war started.
Firstly the new super cold war between the western block and the Russia, China alliance and its allies like Iran. In the next year or so I expect a hate campaign to be started in the west against China by the western corporate media similar to the hate campaign against Russia. A key recent event is President Trump withdrawing from the 1987 nuclear weapons treaty with Russia.
Secondly the hypocrisy and double standards today which were also prevalent in 1914. We went to war to defend gallant Belgium a country which exterminated ten million Congolese Africans in the 1900s. There is no holocaust memorial to the Congolese today.
Also after the Bolshevik revolution in Russia they published the secret treaties before the first world war. In which Russia was to get some Turkish territories and the allied powers were to be given some German colonies.
In the period up to 1914 there was a constant hate campaign in the British media about the threat from Germany. For instance Erskine Childers book the riddle of the sands a fiction story about a German invasion of Britain. Today there is a similar hate campaign against Russia a country whose defence expenditure is only ten percent of America,s and is totally surrounded by the western powers.
As in 1914 there was a hypocritical double standards. Then Britain had a repressive empire. But at the same time raged against German aggression. Today Britain rages about the Skripal affair without providing any hard evidence of Russian involvement. But at the same time turns a blind eye to Saudi Arabia,s actions in the Yemen and also helps to try and cover up the murder of the Saudi journalist in the Saudi embassy in Turkey.
Personally I put the chances of a world war between the western bloc and Russia/China at about fifty per cent in the next three years or so. The reason for this is that as in 1914 they saw a rising Germany as a threat to British world hegemony. Today there is the rise of China which American imperialism sees as a threat to its plans for world domination. The western corporate elite it seems are not prepared to accept an equal multi polar world with Russia/China.
Of course there is also the arms industry.The American economy is dominated by the arms industry. So it needs constant wars to keep going.
So in conclusion I say ignore the hypocritical official commemorations on the 11/11/18. Instead on the day reflect on our present world. Then take positive action by getting involved in campaigns against wars and oligarchical corporate capitalist rule and also help to build a new world based on peace justice and equality.
